Inspired by the ocean, rooted in the land, and driven by passion and care. We grow extraordinary food, pioneer regenerative solutions, and create systems and materials that nourish people and the planet—building a legacy that lasts generations.

Why We Exist.

Hoku Agriculture brings together a team spanning agriculture, hospitality, product development, engineering, and brand—united by a single conviction: that food systems can be both restorative and enduring.

We set out to build more than a company. We set out to build a legacy—rooted in stewardship, powered by innovation, and answerable to the generations who inherit what we grow today.

We believe exceptional food, environmental stewardship, and intelligent systems are not competing priorities. They are one system, working as it should.

As parents, entrepreneurs, and builders, food security, clean water, thriving ecosystems, and the communities they sustain are not causes we support—they are the world we are building.

Hoku Agriculture—The Future, Cultivated.

Meet the Team

  • Devorah Ungerleider

    CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER / CO-FOUNDER

Devorah Ungerleider has spent 25 years building brands that move people — first as part of the team that grew Red Bull's promotional marketing into a category-defining force, then as founder of consumer brands across wellness and beauty, including Causmic Brands Studio. Her work has always started with the same question: how should someone feel when they encounter this? As Chief Executive Officer of Hoku Agriculture, Devorah is applying that same instinct for brand, story, and experience to something larger — a company built to prove that premium, restorative food systems can be as compelling as they are essential. She leads Hoku's vision, its partnerships, and its place in the world, with the same creative conviction she has brought to every brand she has built.

  • David Sui Balanson

    CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER / CO-FOUNDER

David Sui Balanson has spent two decades building the operational backbone of some of hospitality's most demanding kitchens — and, more recently, some of agriculture's most demanding production floors. Through leadership roles within Whisknladle Hospitality and P.F. Chang's, he learned how to turn ambition into systems that scale without losing quality. That discipline carried him into the plant world, where he oversaw the production of 14 million clones in three years at Cultivaris Agriscience — a feat that demanded exacting precision at a scale few operators ever encounter. As Chief Operating Officer of Hoku Agriculture, David brings that same rigor to a company built across cold water, tropical forest, and controlled environments — building the teams, systems, and infrastructure that let a regenerative food company operate at the scale its vision demands.

  • Nghia Dang

    CHIEF AGRICULTURAL OFFICER / CO-FOUNDER

Nghia Dang has spent 25 years building innovation—farm networks, training systems, business infrastructure — across agriculture, hospitality, transportation, and print. His through-line across industries is the conviction behind all he does—farming, done right, is a force for community and social change. That conviction has taken him into fields alongside growers across multiple regions, not to instruct from a distance but to build alongside them—sharing growing techniques, training teams, and developing the operational plans that turn a farm into a thriving, self-sufficient business. As Hoku's Chief Agricultural Officer, Nghia applies that same hands-on, holistic approach to building an integrated network of farms designed to restore the land and oceans and support the people who work those spaces.

  • Clint Boone

    CHIEF GROWING OFFICER / CO-FOUNDER

Clint Boone has been farming since childhood—a fact that shows in the instinct he brings to every growing system he touches. Raised in Oregon, he built his expertise the way the best growers do: in the field, at scale, over decades. As owner of Root Wise and Roo's Botanicals, and through large-scale growing operations spanning multiple regions worldwide—including Hawaii and Alaska—Clint has become a recognized expert in horticulture, cultivar and yield development, and the technology that makes precision agronomics possible at scale. As Hoku's Chief Growing Officer, he brings that rare combination of hands-in-the-soil and hands-in-the-water instinct and technical precision to the company's growing systems—from Southeast Alaska's cold waters to tropical agroforestry.
